[+]![]() EAGLES SET FOR NCAA D-II PLAYOFFS CALIFORNIA -Edinboro vs. Clarion has become quite a familiar matchup in recent weeks, but none of the previous matches takes on quite the importance of Thursday's showdown in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Playoffs at California's Hamer Hall. Like an old-western dual, it's a High Noon match time for the Golden Eagles (26-9), seeded third in the Atlantic Region, and the sixth-seeded Fighting Scots (22-12). It's also a rematch of last week's PSAC Quarterfinal match won 3-1 by Clarion at Clarion's Tippin Gym. [+]![]() EAGLES ROLL TO WIN IN OPENER CLARION - It was a record-book night for the Clarion University men's basketball team in its season-opening 124-50 win over visiting Penn St.-New Kensington Tuesday night at Tippin Gym. The Golden Eagles shot 66.7 percent (48 of 72) from the field, their highest total at Tippin Gym since records became available during the 1980-81 season and their third highest overall since that 1980-81 season. The 74-point margin of victory is also the largest at Tippin under 22nd-year head coach Ron Righter and the second-larges for the Golden Eagles in Righter's tenure, while the 124 points tied for the seventh most by Clarion under Righter and the seventh most at the school since at least the 1965-66 season.
