April 28, 2008

(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion University Athletic Director Dave Katis has announced the second annual Clarion University Women's Golf Scramble to benefit women's athletic scholarships. The Tournament is now named after former Clarion Associate Athletic Director Fran Shope, who passed away on May 2, 2007. This is the second year for the golf scramble.

The event, sponsored by Wienken and Associates and Pepsi, is designed to raise money to be used strictly for women's athletic scholarships.

The Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, May 10 at Clarion Oaks G.C. with a shotgun start at 9am. A light breakfast will be served at 8am, and dinner will be served following the event. The event is a four-person, all women's scramble with the team fee set at $300. Checks should be made payable to the Clarion University Foundation. Any teams interested in registering can contact Associate Athletic Director Wendy Snodgrass at 814-393-1989, or Christina (Tillotson) Sheets at 814-393-2457.

Cash prizes will be offered to the first place teams based on Scratch and Callaway scoring.

Team registration includes greens fee, cart, gift, mulligans, breakfast, dinner, snacks, and hot dogs and beverages on the course. Extras include a Chinese Auction, Skins, Par 3 Poker, plus skill prizes on each hole.

"This is the second year for this event and we hope that it will continue to grow in the number of players and in stature," commented Katis. "The main purpose of this tournament is to raise money for women's athletic scholarships, but we want this tournament to be fun and an event that people will look forward to playing each and every year."

"Our hats are off to our corporate sponsors," praised Katis. "We couldn't do this without their great support. We also want to thank Clarion Oaks Golf Club and our wonderful staff of volunteers who are helping make this a great event. We're very grateful to everyone for their support."
