LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the third straight week, Clarion forward
Hannah Heeter is the PSAC West Freshman of the Week.
Heeter recorded two more double-doubles during the week giving her four straight double-doubles and five in her last six games while averaging 14.5 points and 15 rebounds per game in Clarion's two contests. She also shot 61.9 percent (13 of 21) from the field and had four assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
Against Lock Haven Wednesday, Heeter recorded 15 points and 15 rebounds and then nearly duplicated the feat at Gannon Saturday scoring 14 points and adding 15 rebounds despite sitting out almost the entire first half in foul trouble. Against Gannon, she had 12 or her points and all 15 rebounds in the second half.
Heeter is having a remarkable season – rookie or otherwise – averaging 9.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in 14 games with eight starts, all this despite not joining the Golden Eagles until the conclusion of the volleyball season. She is the first Golden Eagle to record four double-doubles in a row since Jessica Albanese had five straight in 2008, and Wednesday when Clarion hosts California (5:30 p.m.) she will try to become the first with five straight since Heather Cigich recorded nine in a row in 2004.
With three 15-rebound contests on the season, Heeter is the second freshman in school history to accomplish that feat joining Cheryl Bansek (1986). She is also one of seven players in school history to have three or more 15-plus rebound games, and her three career 15-rebound games already ranks tied for seventh in school history with Sara Pratt.
In addition, Heeter's 139 rebounds this season are already the 17
th most by a freshman in school history and she needs seven to tie Fran Cuda (1982) for 16
th and 10 to match Courtney Willman (2000) for 15
th.
