PUEBLO, Col. –
Kim Hanslovan became just the second Clarion University women's track and field athlete to earn two All-American awards when she finished sixth in the javelin at the 2012 NCAA Division II national championships Saturday in Pueblo, Col.
Hanslovan, who battled an injury all season, threw a season-best 157-feet, 5-inches (47.98 meters) to join Erin Richard as the only multiple All-American from Clarion. She was second at the 2010 championships.
Seeded eighth going into the finals after a preliminary throw of 44.34 meters, Hanslovan had the third-best throw in the finals.
“I'm proud of Kim,” Clarion head coach
D.J. Bevevino said. “She battled through that injury all season. I know it was a painful injury, and for her to come out here and finish sixth is a great accomplishment considering everything she has gone through.”
NOTES – Richard's two All-American awards both came in 2007 when she finished third in the 5,000-meter run and fourth in the 10,000-meter run. With Hanslovan's All-American finish this year, Clarion has had seven NCAA Division II All-Americans in track and field … Hanslovan, who transferred to Clarion from Penn State prior to the 2010 season, was also 14
th at the NCAA Division I national meet in 2009 … Hanslovan is Clarion's record holder in the javelin with a throw of 160-feet, 3-inches.
