         <description><![CDATA[TOWNSON, Md. - For the third time in her career Clarion University's Erin Richard (Erie/McDowell) has been named a College Division ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).<p>Richard, who was a senior in 2008-2009, is a third-team selection for the second time in three years - she was also a third-team choice in 2007 - after being a member of the second team in 2008. She earns the award by carrying a 3.88 in Elementary Education and earning two All-American awards at the 2009 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships while qualifying for the NCAA D-II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in two events.</P>]]></description>

Junior Molly Smathers (Clarion) meanwhile missed in her bid on Friday night to qualify for the finals on Saturday in the 800 meters. <p>Hosted at Angelo State University, Richard ran a 5,000 meter qualifying time of 17:27.26 on Friday night and finished in 11th place in the prelims with 12 qualifying for the finals.          <description><![CDATA[PITTSBURGH - Congratulations to Tasha Wheatley, Clarion University's graduate assistant women's track and field/cross country coach, for her third-place finish among female runners at Sunday's Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Half Marathon which was part of the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.<p>Wheatley, a 2007 Clarion graduate, ran a time of 1:23.43, which was the fastest time among American born female runners and the 21st fastest time regardless of gender. She finished just under six-and-a-half minutes behind Rahab Ndungu of Kenya and just over five-and-a-half minutes back of Serkalem Abrha of Ethiopia in the women's race.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[LOCK HAVEN - Jamie Maloney broke Clarion's 29-year old record in the 400-meter dash at the Lock Haven Last Chance meet Saturday while in the process improving on her PSAC qualifying time in the event to lead a solid day for the Golden Eagles women's track and field team.<p>Maloney, who took first place, ran a 58.14 bettering the previous school record of 59.2 set by Penny Gray in 1980.
