CLARION - Clarion University sophomore Ann Stinson (New Castle/Shenango) has earned a bid to participate in the javelin at the 2008 NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships May 24 in Walnut, Calif. Stinson, the PSAC Champion in the javelin, is seeded 11th in the event with a throw of 43.88 meters (143-11 feet). Stinson is the PSAC Champion in the javelin winning the title with a throw of 143-11 May 3 at IUP. NOTES - Stinson's event is set for 2 p.m. PDT or 5 p.m. EDT ... This is the third consecutive year the Clarion women's team has had at least one participant at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Last year, Erin Richard won two All-American awards taking third in the 5,000 and fourth in the 10,000 ... Richard qualified for this year's NCAA D-II meet but isn't able to participate because of a season-ending injury... The last field participant at the NCAA D-II meet for the Golden Eagles was Carrie Bullman in the javelin in 2004. That year marked the third straight year Bullman qualified for the NCAA's in the javelin with her highest finishing being 11th in 2003. The last Golden Eagle field athlete to earn All-American honors since Julie Evenoski was eighth in the javelin in 2003 ... In addition to Stinson and Richard, the Golden Eagles had one other NCAA D-II provisional qualifier this season in Diane Kress in the heptathlon. Kress finished with the 19th best point total in the event, but the NCAA only took the top 12 participants ... Evenoski holds the school record in the javelin with a throw of 145-8 in 2003. |
