![]() SMATHERS/XC TEAM EARN USTFCCCA ACADEMIC AWARDS NEW ORLEANS - Clarion University junior Molly Smathers has earned the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association NCAA Division II All-Academic Award for the 2008 season while helping the Golden Eagles earn their 12th NCAA D-II All-Academic Team Award in the last 13 years. "These are great accomplishments," Clarion's third-year head coach Jayson Resch said. "The primary thing we are looking for when we recruit student-athletes is well-rounded athletes. We want athletes who perform well in the classroom, set goals in competition and are active members of their community. For Molly to earn All-Academic status and for the team to earn the All-Academic Award are all part of the goals we set for ourselves each season." [+]![]() 126 SCHOLAR ATHLETES HONORED CLARION - Clarion University honored 126 scholar athletes during the "Bob Carlson" Scholar Athlete Luncheon held in the Gemmell Student Complex Multi-Purpose Room, Friday, Feb. 6. The total represents 38 percent of Clarion University students participating in athletics. Clarion University President Joseph Grunenwald and athletic director Dave Katis were pleased to announce that the cumulative grade point average for all student athletes for the previous two semesters was 3.0. [+]![]() EAGLES 15TH AT REGIONALS SLIPPERY ROCK - The Clarion University women's cross country team concluded its season with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division II East Regionals Saturday afternoon at Slippery Rock. Molly Smathers led the way for the Golden Eagles finishing 29th in a time of 23:27. Lisa Nickel gave Clarion two runners in the Top 50 taking 50th in a time of 24:07.
