Al Modrejewski, 46, a former Clarion assistant coach from 1990-95, returned to the Golden Eagle staff as first assistant in 1999 and begins his tenth season in that role. An experienced, knowledgeable and widely recognized coach, Al is considered one of the top recruiters in NCAA Div.II basketball. Modrejewski came back to Clarion in August, 1999, from East Stroudsburg University where he was assistant coach for two seasons (1998 & 99). He also was assistant coach at UPJ for two seasons (1996 & 97), both NCAA Div.II Playoff years. "It's great to be home again," said Modrejewski. "I love working for coach Righter, who I consider my mentor in the business. I will work hard to do a great job for coach Righter and Clarion basketball." Al's six years at Clarion from 1990-95 were marked with success. Clarion won 19 games in 1992 and 17 contests in 1993. Among his top recruits were All-Americans Kwame Morton (1994) and Oronn Brown (1997). A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Al graduated from Thomas Jefferson High in 1980 and attended Alliance College (Cambridge Springs, Pa.). The student Sports Information Director from 1981-85 and Sports Editor of "The Eagle", he graduated in 1985 with a degree in Communications. Assistant basketball coach at Alliance under Ted Haluch in 1985, he was a G.A. in Sports Info at Point Park in 1986 and assistant coach at St. Mary's College (Michigan) in 1987. He returned to Point Park and was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under Jerry Conboy for the 1988 and 1989 seasons, before coming to Clarion. A camp and clinic guru, Al has worked all the top camps including Metro Index, Pitt, Robert Morris, Gannon, Isiah Thomas, Iowa and many more. Al and wife Jessica reside in Clarion. |
