CLARION - Maqsood Harrington scored a game-high 18 points including five straight in the final 4:30 to lift Wheeling Jesuit to a 75-66 win over Clarion University in men's non-conference basketball action Tuesday night at Clarion's Tippin Gym. Clarion (0-3) had cut an 11-point Wheeling Jesuit lead to one - 63-62 - with 4:45 to play thanks to a 12-2 run that was capped by two free throws by Josh Yanke. But Harrington scored the next five points - and eight of the next 10 for the Cardinals - to help Wheeling Jesuit (2-0) go on an 10-0 run over the next four minutes that sealed the win. Damon Gross (Pittsburgh/Westinghouse) scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Lonnell Jones had 15 tallies and three assists to lead Clarion. Josh Yanke (13 points, 8 rebounds) and freshman Mike Cherry (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley - 10 points, 5 rebounds) also reached double figures for the Golden Eagles. Joe Suchy chipped in with 15 points including three 3-pointers and nine rebounds off the bench for Wheeling Jesuit, while Duane Compo had 10 points. Wheeling Jesuit held a 36-34 halftime lead. Clarion is now off until Nov. 28 when it hosts Penn State-DuBois at 7 p.m. |
