HOGGARD, SIPES & FORADORA FB GAZETTE ALL-AMERICANS

(CLARION, PA): Clarion University all-purpose back Alfonso Hoggard (Jr. Philadelphia - Caravel Academy), strong safety Nick Sipes (Jr. Curwensville) and tight end Matt Foradora (Sr. Falls, Creek - Brockway) were named today to the 2009 Don Hansen Football Gazette All-America team.

Hoggard was named as a Third Team All-American, while Sipes and Foradora earned Honorable Mention All-America honors. Eighty three players were honored by Football Gazette.

(CLARION, PA): Clarion University running back Alfonso Hoggard (Jr. Philadelphia - Caravel Academy) and strong safety Nick Sipes (Jr. Curwensville) were named today to the 2009 Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region 1 first team.

Also selected as second team All-Region performers were tight end Matt Foradora (Sr. Falls, Creek - Brockway) and wide receiver Jacques Robinson (Pittsburgh - Oliver). Freshman corner back Daily Whitten (Darlington, S.C.) earned third team accolades. Hoggard was also named third team as a return specialist.

FORADORA AT VALERO CACTUS BOWL

(Kingsville, Texas.): Clarion University tight end Matt Foradora (Falls Creek, PA. - Brockway HS) will play in his second post-season All-Star game this Friday night, January 8th, as Foradora will play in the 2010 Valero Cactus Bowl in Kingsville, Texas.

Hosted at Texas A&M Kingsville's Javelina Stadium, kickoff is set for 6:35pm C.S.T. and will be televised on Fox College Sports Channel 617 on DirecTV and will also be webcast on www.cactusbowl.org. Local Corpus Christi affiliate KCCT 1150 AM will broadcast the game on the radio.

HOGGARD & SIPES 1ST TEAM DAKTRONICS

(West Chester, Pa.): Clarion University running back Alfonso Hoggard (Jr. Philadelphia - Caravel Academy) and strong safety Nick Sipes (Jr. Curwensville) were named today to the 2009 Daktronics Super Region 1 (East Region) first team, as selected by the region's Sports Information Directors.

Hoggard also earned a second team selection as a return specialist, while teammate Matt Foradora (Sr. Falls Creek - Brockway) earned second team honors at tight end.

FORADORA IN EAST COAST BOWL - NOV. 28TH

(Petersburg, Va.): Clarion University tight end Matt Foradora (Falls Creek, PA. - Brockway HS) was selected to play in the "East Coast Bowl" Game on Saturday, November 28th in Petersburg, Virginia.

Kickoff for the game will be at noon at Cameron Field in Petersburg, Virginia and is sponsored by the city of Petersburg and the National Football Foundation. The game will feature 75 top Division I-FCS, II, III and NAIA athletes that are playing at universities across the country.

HOGGARD & COACH FOSTER EARN TOP PSAC AWARDS

(Lock Haven,Pa.): The PSAC announced its Western Division football post-season honors today and Clarion University Running Back/All-Purpose Back Alfonso Hoggard (Jr. Philadelphia - Caravel Academy) was named the PSAC-West Offensive "Player of the Year" and head coach Jay Foster earned West "Coach of the Year" honors.

In addition, Hoggard, wide receiver Jacques Robinson (Jr. Pgh. - Oliver), tight end Matt Foradora (Sr. Falls Creek - Brockway) and defensive lineman Ben Maund (Jr. Canonsburg - Canon McMillan) were named to the first team, while linebacker Joe Fox (Jr. Murrysville - Franklin Regional), Nick Sipes (Jr. Curwensville), freshman corner Daily Whitten (Darlington, S. C.) and Hoggard as a return specialist were named to the second team.

CLARION TOPS CHEYNEY 32-12

(CHEYNEY, PA.): Clarion's Alfonso Hoggard rushed for 102 yards and 3 td's, qb Tyler Huether hit 14 of 17 passes for 175 yards and 1 td and receiver Jacques Robinson caught 8 passes for 104 yards and 1 td as Clarion rolled past Cheyney 32-12 in PSAC football on Saturday. Hoggard's 3 td's gave him 17 on the season, setting a new Clarion single season record.

Held at O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium, Clarion finished its regular season with an 8-3 record and entered the game ranked 9th in the NCAA Division II's Super Region 1 poll. The top 6 teams in the region will be extended an NCAA Playoff bid on Sunday. Cheyney finished the season with an 0-11 record.

CLARION FB AT CHEYNEY SATURDAY IN 2009 FINALE

After defeating #21 Edinboro last Saturday 30-17, Clarion rolls into its final game of the 2009 regular season on a five game winning streak as the Golden Eagles travel to Cheyney to take on the Wolves on Saturday, November 7th. Kickoff is set for Noon.

The game can also be heard on the Golden Eagle Football network, which includes WCCR-FM, 92.7 and WKQW-FM, 96.3, as well as on the internet at Redzonemedia.com with Mike Kalinowski doing the play by play and Joe Lodanosky offering color commentary.

CLARION'S HUETHER & ROBINSON EARN PSAC HONORS

(LOCK HAVEN, PA.): Clarion quarterback Tyler Huether (Sr. Irwin, Penn Trafford) and linebacker Reggie Robinson (So. Pgh - Brashear) were named as the PSAC-West Offensive and Defensive "Players of the Week" based on their performances in Clarion's 30-17 win over #21 ranked Edinboro last Saturday.

The Golden Eagles are currently 7-3 overall and second in the PSAC-Western Division with a 6-1 mark.

CLARION DROPS #21 EDINBORO 30-17

(EDINBORO, PA): Clarion's Tyler Huether passed for 169 yards and rushed for 91 yards and 3 td's and Alfonso Hoggard rushed for 99 yards and 1 td as Clarion defeated #21 ranked Edinboro 30-17 in a PSAC-West showdown game at Sox Harrison Stadium.

The Golden Eagles, who have won 5 straight for the first time since 1996, raised their record to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC-Western Division. Edinboro, who was also ranked 6th in Super Region 1 coming into the game, dropped to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the West. The win for Clarion secured a second 2nd place finish in the West, while a Mercyhurst win at California later today would give Clarion a share of the PSAC-West crown.

EAGLES VISIT #21 SCOTS IN PSAC-WEST SHOWDOWN

Riding a four-game winning streak, Clarion travels to #21 ranked Edinboro this Saturday, October 31st, for a PSAC-West showdown between two teams with 5-1 records in the PSAC-Western Division. Played at Sox Harrison Stadium, kickoff is set for 1pm in a game that will also be televised live on the PA-Sportsfever Network.

The game will also feature two of the top players in Division II in Clarion All-Purpose Back Alfonso Hoggard and Edinboro quarterback Trevor Harris.

HOGGARD LEADS EAGLES PAST IUP 30-28

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion's Alfonso Hoggard had 292 All-Purpose Yards and 2 td's, while rushing for 162 yards and 2 td's against the PSAC's #1 defense in leading the Golden Eagles to an exciting 30-28 win over IUP on Senior Day at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Clarion raised its PSAC-West record to 5-1 and 6-3 overall, while IUP dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC-West. Clarion has assured itself of a winning season, its first since the Golden Eagles were 7-4 in 2002.

EAGLES HOST IUP SATURDAY AT 1PM

Riding a three-game winning streak, Clarion hosts IUP this Saturday, October 24th, at Clarion's Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for a game that will also serve as Senior Day, is set for 1pm. Seniors honored in pre-game ceremonies include Tyler Huether, Matt Foradora, Jon Kalchthaler and Chris Kinkaid.

FORMER FB COACH JOHN REISH KILLED IN ACCIDENT

(CLARION, PA.): Former long-time Clarion University assistant football coach John Reish was killed in a two-car crash on Saturday night near State College, and former head coach and long-time assistant Charles Ruslavage and wife Jan were injured in the same crash and taken to Altoona Hospital. Jan remains in the hospital in serious, but stable condition. Late Monday afternoon Charlie was discharged from the hospital.

Coach Reish was a back seat passenger in the Ruslavage van, with Jan driving and Charlie in the front passenger seat. They were on their way back to Clarion from attending the Penn State - Minnesota game in State College.

HOGGARD LEADS EAGLES PAST LAKERS 29-25

CLARION, PA.): Clarion's Alfonso Hoggard had 196 All-Purpose yards and scored three touchdowns, including the game-winner on a 22-yard run with 2:18 remaining, to vault the Golden Eagles to a 29-25 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Clarion raised its overall record to 5-3 and PSAC-West slate to 4-1, while Mercyhurst dipped to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC-West. The TV replay of the game will appear on FSN-Pittsburgh on Monday night at 7pm.

Clarion scored 22 fourth quarter points and rallied from a 19-7 fourth quarter deficit to put itself in the PSAC-West title race today.
