PRINGLE NAMED PSAC "FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR"

(Lock Haven, Pa.): Clarion freshman golfer Ross Pringle (Titusville) was named this week as the PSAC "Freshman of the Year" by a vote of the head coaches in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Pringle had a very strong year posting a scoring average of 75.01, and closed his season with his most impressive performance, a 10th place finish at the 2009 East/Atlantic Super Regional with a 54-hole score of 229. He placed 10th out of 106 golfers. The Super Regional was played at The Resort Course at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia and he shot rounds of 78, 74 and 77.

SCHMADER 45TH - FINAL ROUND 76 AT NATIONALS

(BLAINE, WASHINGTON): Clarion's Jared Schmader (So. Cooperstown/Maplewood) bounced back with a final round score of five-over par 76 on Friday at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships, placing him in 45th place overall with a final 72-hole score of 303.

Held at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington, Schmader shot his final round of 76 on the par 71 yard course that measures 6,995 yards. He opened the Division II Nationals with a three-over 74, then a one-under par 70, followed by a twelve-over 83 and finished with today's 76. A total of 106 golfers played in the event that included 20 teams and 5 individual qualifiers from the "Super Regionals".

SCHMADER SHOOTS 83 AT NCAA D-II NATIONALS

(BLAINE, WASHINGTON): Clarion's Jared Schmader (So. Cooperstown/Maplewood) had an off day on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships, dropping to 41st place in medal play after carding an 83. He has a three-day total of 227.

Held at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington, Schmader shot his round of 83 on the par 71 course that measures 6,995 yards. He was tied for fourth entering today's round after posting a 74 on Tuesday and a one-under par 70 on Wednesday to open the nationals. The Division II Tournament is 72-holes and continues with team and individual champions crowned on Friday. There are a total of 106 golfers playing in the tournament, including 20 teams and other qualified individuals.

SCHMADER 4TH AT D-II NATIONALS

Held at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington, Schmader shot his round of one-under 70 on the 6,995 yard par 71 course. He carded a three-over par 74 on Tuesday which has him tied for 4th overall at 144. The Division II Tournament is 72-holes and continues with team and individual champions crowned on Friday. There are a total of 106 golfers playing in the tournament, including 20 teams and other qualified individuals.

SCHMADER OPENS WITH 74 AT NATIONALS

SCHMADER WINS PLAYOFF/QUALIFIES FOR D-II NATIONALS

(DANIELS, W.V.): Clarion sophomore golfer Jared Schmader (Cooperstown/Maplewood) defeated Ohio Valley's Sean Burke with a par 3 on the third playoff hole to gain an invitation to the NCAA Division II Nationals May 19-22 at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington.

Schmader tied for fifth overall with a 228, while teammate Ross Pringle (Fr. Titusville) was tied for 10th with a 229 (just missing the playoff), and freshman Derek Forese (Grove City) placed 27th with a 236.

GOLFERS RAIN - DELAYED AT NCAA REGIONALS

(DANIELS, W.Va.)---Rainy weather took a toll at day two of the 2009 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Men's Golf Regional. A pair of rain delays that totaled over five hours prevented the completion of play by 12 of the 20 teams participating.

Clarion is one of those teams that did not finish the second round. Ross Pringle (Fr. Titusville), who opened with a 78, had a one-over par 37 through nine holes on Tuesday. Jared Schmader (So. Cooperstown/Maplewood) was one over through 8 holes on Tuesday before play was stopped. He had an 82 on Monday.

PRINGLE 24TH AT D-II GOLF REGIONAL

(Daniels, W.V.): Clarion freshman Ross Pringle (Titusville) is tied for 24th after firing a 78 and the Golden Eagle golf team totaled 330 and is in 17th place after the first day of the NCAA Division II "Super Regional" Golf Tournament in Daniels, West Virginia on Monday.

Held at "The Resort Course at Glade Springs" - Cobb Course, Fayetteville State is in first place with a team total of 304, West Liberty is second with a 309, Adelphi is in third at 312, Fairmont State in fourth with a 314 and Charleston fifth with a 316. Clarion is tied for 17th place with a team total of 330. There are 20 teams participating in the "Super Regional", which has teams from the Atlantic Region and the East Region.

CLARION GOLFERS WIN AT ST. VINCENT

(LATROBE, PA.): Clarion freshmen Derek Forese (Grove City) and Ross Pringle (Titusville) were second and third respectively on Thursday, leading Clarion to a first place finish at the St. Vincent Invitational Golf Tournament in Latrobe.

Clarion won the team event with a score of 304, while St. Vincent was second with a 314, Washington & Jefferson third at 323 and Allegheny fourth with a 325. Fifteen teams participated.

SCHMADER MEDALIST AT IUP WITH 3-UNDER 141

(INDIANA, PA.): Clarion sophomore Jared Schmader (Cooperstown/Maplewood) took medalist honors and the Golden Eagles as a team finished second out of 17 teams on Tuesday at the two-day, 36-hole Cecil Spadafora Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by IUP at the Indiana Country Club.

Schmader, who shot a three-under par 68 on Monday, came back with an even par 71 on Tuesday to win medalist honors with a two-day total of three-under 141. He edged Millersville's Darryn Deshong and Concord's Andrew Miller who finished with two-under par totals of 140, while Clarion's Ross Pringle (Fr. Titusville) finished fourth one over par 143.

SCHMADER FIRES 3-UNDER 68 AT IUP

(INDIANA, PA.): Clarion sophomore Jared Schmader (Cooperstown/Maplewood) fired a three-under par 68 to take the lead after the first round of the Cecil Spadafora Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by IUP at Indiana Country Club on Monday.

Schmader's 68 puts him in the lead by three shots over IUP's Gavin Smith and Allegheny's Mike Wolf who had even par rounds of 71 on Monday.

CLARION'S PRINGLE 5TH AT CONCORD

(Daniels, W.V.): Clarion University's Golf team finished fourth and Ross Pringle (Fr. Titusville) finished fifth with a 151 at the Concord University Golf Invitational held March 21-22 at Glade Springs Resort.

Concord and Ohio Valley tied for first with 610 team totals, IUP was third with a 618, Clarion fourth at 622 and Charleston fifth with 625. Twelve teams competed.

MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SECOND AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP

HERSHEY - Four of Clarion's five golfers earned All-PSAC honors helping the Golden Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2008 PSAC Golf Championships which concluded Sunday at the Hershey Golf Links (formerly Wren Dale).

The Golden Eagles, under first-year head coach Marty Rinker, finished with a team score of 593 second only to PSAC Champion IUP's 580. Clarion and IUP were the only two teams in the seven-team field to break 600, as California was third with 621.

MEN'S GOLFERS 2ND AT PSAC'S - DAY 1

(Hershey, Pa.): Clarion's Men's Golf Team shot a team score of 294 and has four golfers in the top seven individual places as the Golden Eagles are in second place after Day 1 of the PSAC Men's Golf Championship.

CLARION GOLFERS WIN COLONIAL INVITE

(Moon Twp.): Clarion University's Men's Golf Team captured the Robert Morris - Colonial Invitational, and Jared Schmader finished third individually, as the tourney was held on Monday and Tuesday at Montour Heights Country Club.

Mostly a Tournament with NCAA D-I schools, Clarion finished first with a total of 601 (302, 299), ahead of IUPUI who had 604 and Robert Morris who was third at 610. There were 12 teams participating.
