MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SECOND AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP

HERSHEY - Four of Clarion's five golfers earned All-PSAC honors helping the Golden Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2008 PSAC Golf Championships which concluded Sunday at the Hershey Golf Links (formerly Wren Dale).

The Golden Eagles, under first-year head coach Marty Rinker, finished with a team score of 593 second only to PSAC Champion IUP's 580. Clarion and IUP were the only two teams in the seven-team field to break 600, as California was third with 621.

(Hershey, Pa.): Clarion's Men's Golf Team shot a team score of 294 and has four golfers in the top seven individual places as the Golden Eagles are in second place after Day 1 of the PSAC Men's Golf Championship.

(Moon Twp.): Clarion University's Men's Golf Team captured the Robert Morris - Colonial Invitational, and Jared Schmader finished third individually, as the tourney was held on Monday and Tuesday at Montour Heights Country Club.

Mostly a Tournament with NCAA D-I schools, Clarion finished first with a total of 601 (302, 299), ahead of IUPUI who had 604 and Robert Morris who was third at 610. There were 12 teams participating.

CLARION'S SCHMADER MEDALIST AT CAL INVITE

(Belle Vernon, Pa.): Clarion University Men's Golfer Jared Schmader (Cooperstown - Maplewood) won his third consecutive tournament and the Golden Eagles finished second at the California University Invite held at Cedarbrook Golf Club October 5-6.

Schmader shot a 4-under par 139, including a two-under 69 on day one and a two under 70 on the second day. Schmader defeated IUP's Gavin Smith in a playoff for medalist honors. Schmader had a par 5 on the first playoff hole, while Smith had a bogey 6.

Moundsville, W.V.: Clarion's Jared Schmader shot an even par 140 as the sophomore led the Golden Eagles to the 2008 Wheeling Jesuit Invitational team title on Tuesday.Held at the Moundsville Country Club, Clarion placed first out of 15 teams with a two-day total of 598. Ohio Valley was one shot back at 599.

CLARION'S SCHMADER EARNS MEDALIST HONORS- 3-UNDER

(Clarion, Pa.): Ohio Valley won the team title, and Clarion's Jared Schmader (Cooperstown/Maplewood) won medalist honors at the 2008 Hal Hansen Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by Clarion University.The tournament was held at the Clarion Oaks Golf Club in Clarion, Pa. and played to a par 72 both days.Schmader, a Clarion sophomore, carded a second day total of five-under par 67 to go with his first day 74 and finished with a two-day score of 141 (one under par).

(Clarion, Pa.): Cal has a narrow one shot lead over Concord (297 - 298) after the first round of the Hal Hansen Invitational Tournament hosted by Clarion University.Played at Clarion Oaks Golf Club under a par 72, Cal leads the 18-team field with a 297, while Concord is next at 298, Ohio Valley is third with a 300, Fairmont State is fourth at 304 and West Liberty is fifth with a 306. Clarion is tied for 8th place with a 314.

CLARION GOLFERS 6TH OF 18 AT OHIO VALLEY

(Marietta, Ohio): Clarion University's 2008 Men's Golf Team got its season underway at the Ohio Valley Invitational on September 6-7 and finished 6th out of 18 teams.Clarion, under the direction of first year head coach Marty Rinker, traveled to Marietta Country Club over the weekend to play the par 70 course. When the dust settled Ohio Valley won the event with a 36-hole score of 572, Potomac State was second with a 583, IUP was third at 587, Charleston fourth with a 695, West Liberty fifth with a 605 and Clarion sixth at 310.

MARTY RINKER NAMED MEN'S GOLF COACH AT CLARION

(CLARION, PA.): Marty Rinker, 49, was named today as the Men's Golf coach at Clarion University by Athletic Director Dave Katis.Rinker takes over the reigns of the men's golf program, following the passing of Al Lefevre on August 8th. Lefevre, who had coached the Golden Eagles for nine years, had won two PSAC titles and taken Clarion to 7 straight NCAA Div.II Playoff appearances from 2002-2008.

Golf Coach Al Lefevre Passes Away

Al "Bud" Lefevre, our friend and colleague, Clarion alumni, devoted husband and father, and so much more to so many, passed away on Friday, August 8th, at Brookville Hospital. He was 65. He is survived by his wife Bonnie (44 years married) and sons Scott and Doug.Visitation for Al will be at McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville on Sunday from 6pm-9pm and Monday from 2-4 and 6-9pm. The Funeral will be at Immaculate Conception Church in Brookville at 10am on Tuesday.

JARED SCHMADER NAMED PSAC "ROOKIE OF THE YEAR"

(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion University freshman golfer Jared Schmader (Cooperstown - Maplewood) was named on Tuesday by the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) as its "Rookie of the Year" by a vote of the league head coaches."Jared had a fantastic season for us," said Clarion head coach Al Lefevre. "He won the NCAA Division II East Regional in May and set a new team record in the Fall with a 6-under par 66. More than that, he's a great young man and we're proud to have him here at Clarion University."
