(BLAINE, WASHINGTON): Clarion's Jared Schmader (So. Cooperstown/Maplewood) bounced back with a final round score of five-over par 76 on Friday at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships, placing him in 45th place overall with a final 72-hole score of 303.

Held at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Washington, Schmader shot his final round of 76 on the par 71 yard course that measures 6,995 yards. He opened the Division II Nationals with a three-over 74, then a one-under par 70, followed by a twelve-over 83 and finished with today's 76. A total of 106 golfers played in the event that included 20 teams and 5 individual qualifiers from the "Super Regionals".

Schmader started his final round on the front nine and posted two birdies and two bogeys for an even par total of 36. Moving to the back nine he finished with a five-over 40 and his total of 76.

In medal play Kelbi Lee of Ferris State and IUP's Gavin Smith tied for first with totals of 289 and Smith won the playoff for the individual national title with a birdie on the first hole of the playoff.Gene Webster of Cal San Bernardino and Patrick Bauer of Sonoma State tied for third at 290.

In the team race Sonoma State and Cal San Bernardino tied for first with scores of 1179. In a team playoff format Sonoma State won the national championship. The Top East/Atlantic Region representative was IUP who finished 12th at 1211.

Schmader qualified for the NCAA's by placing in a tie for fifth at the East/Atlantic Super Regional, and won a playoff to earn his spot. In 2008 he actually tied for first at the Super Regional, but only 1 individual golfer qualified for nationals then and he lost that bid in a playoff.

CLARION NOTES: The last Clarion player to get to nationals was Matt Guyton - He was 3-time PSAC "Player of the Year" and a third team All-American in Spring 2003. Guyton placed 7th at the 2003 NCAA-Div. II Nationals with an even par 288 (72, 73, 71, 72). His last year at Clarion was in 2005.
