Dec. 6, 2009 (Akron, Ohio): The Clarion Men's Swimming and Diving team finished fifth at the Zippy Invitational, held at the Ocasek Natatorium and hosted by Akron University from Friday through Sunday. The ten team field had Xavier first with 1,578.5 points, Buffalo second with 1,327.5 points, St. Bonaventure third with 1,212.5, Duquesne fourth at 1,148 and Clarion fifth with 1,098.5. On Sunday in the pool Clarion senior Ryan Thiel placed second in the 100 free (45.13) and senior Rich Eckert was 2nd in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.66). Jon Kofmehl placed 6th in the 200 back (1:53.61) and the 400 free relay team of Andrew Claypool, Appleby, Dustin Fedunok and Thiel finished third with a time of 3:05.93. The Golden Eagles, under the direction of tenth year head coach Mark VanDyke, have finished their Fall schedule. Clarion returns to action on January 23rd going against Ashland, Edinboro and Gannon at Warren Harding HS in Warren, Ohio. |
