CLARION THIRD AT 35TH EWL TOURNEY

(Morgantown, WV.): Clarion's James Fleming and Hadley Harrison were runners-up and qualified for the NCAA D-I Nationals, while Greg Lewis and Alex Thomas also finished second and will hope for an NCAA wild card selection, as the Golden Eagles notched 10 placewinners and took third place at the 35th Annual Eastern Wrestling League Championships on Sunday.

Hosted at the West Virginia Coliseum, Edinboro took the team title with 135.5 points, Pittsburgh was second with 121.5, and Clarion a strong third with 111 points. Rounding out the seven team field were Bloomsburg in fourth with 84.5, West Virginia fifth with 82, Lock Haven sixth at 58 and Cleveland State seventh with 37.

LEWIS, FLEMING, HARRISON & THOMAS IN EWL FINALS

(Morgantown, W.V.): Clarion advanced Greg Lewis, James Fleming, Hadley Harrison and Alex Thomas to the EWL finals tonight at the WVU Coliseum. The Golden Eagles are in third place as a team heading into the consolations which start at 5pm, while the place matches begin at 7pm to end the 35th EWL Championships.

Pitt leads the team scoring with 103, Edinboro is second with 84.5, Clarion third with 83, Bloomsburg fourth with 56, West Virginia fifth at 55.5, Lock Haven sixth with 39.5 and Cleveland State seventh with 36.

WRESTLERS AT 35TH EWL'S SUNDAY

Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team is ready for its "second season" as the Golden Eagles prepare to compete in the 35th annual EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) Championships.

The 2010 EWL's will be hosted at West Virginia University's Coliseum on Sunday, March 7th. Session 1 is set for 10am and will feature quarterfinal action, followed by semi-finals and Round 1 consolations. Session 2 starts at 5pm and will have the consolation semi's, followed at 7pm by Session 3, the championship finals and matches for third and fifth places.

CLARION WRESTLERS DEFEAT L.H. 33-9

(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion seniors Greg Lewis (New Providence) and Hadley Harrison (McKean) had big wins and the Golden Eagles won 8 of 10 bouts as Clarion defeated Lock Haven 33-9 in an NCAA Div. I Wrestling dual meet on Friday night.

Held at Waldo S.Tippin Gymnasium, Clarion finished the season with an 8-8 dual meet record and a 4-2 mark in the Eastern Wrestling League. Lock Haven dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the EWL.

Lewis raised his season record to 16-10 overall and 10-3 at 141-pounds as he pinned Justin Louden at 2:27 of the match with a cradle. Harrison, ranked #15 in the country at 157, scored a 10-2 major decision over Seth Creasy. The win puts Harrison at 32-7 on the season and gives him a 96-52 career record.

Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team returns to the friendly confines of Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on Friday, February 19th, when the Golden Eagles host Lock Haven at 7pm in the final dual meet of the 2010 season. Seniors Greg Lewis (New Providence) and Hadley Harrison (McKean/General McLane) will be honored in pre-match ceremonies.

HARRISON PSAC & EWL WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

Clarion University senior 157-pound wrestler Hadley Harrison (McKean - General McLane) was named today as the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) and EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) "Wrestler of the Week" for his performances last week for the Golden Eagles.

Harrison, rated #17 in the country, had an impressive 3-0 week which raised his season record to 31-7, while pushing his career win total to 95, just five wins short of the coveted 100-win plateau. His wins also helped Clarion to impressive wins over North Carolina (25-19) and Cleveland State (49-0) on Saturday night, along with a 28-8 loss to #18 rated Pitt on Thursday.

EAGLES SWEEP NORTH CAROLINA 25-19 & CLEVELAND ST. 49-0

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion received a technical fall from James Fleming at 149, a pin from Hadley Harrison at 157 and a decision from Nick Milano at 165 that rallied Clarion to a big 25-19 win over North Carolina on Saturday night in NCAA Division I Wrestling. Held at Clarion's Waldo S. Tippin Gym, Clarion earlier defeated Cleveland State 49-0 in an EWL dual meet.

The wins push Clarion's record to 7-8 overall, and the victory over CSU gives the Golden Eagles a 3-2 record in the EWL.

#18 PITT DEFEATS CLARION 28-8

(Pittsburgh): Clarion's #18 rated James Fleming won by tech. fall at 149 and #17 Hadley Harrison a decision at 157 but it wasn't enough as #18 Pitt defeated the Golden Eagles 28-8 at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse on Thursday night.

The Panthers raised their record to 16-1-1 and 5-0 in the EWL while Clarion dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the EWL.

CLARION WRESTLERS LOSE AT UPJ 18-15

(Johnstown, Pa.) Clarion won 5 of 10 bouts and led 15-12 after 184-pounds, but #4 ranked NCAA D-II Pitt-Johnstown rallied to win the final two bouts and defeat Clarion 18-15 in collegiate wrestling.

Clarion's record now drops to 5-7 overall, while UPJ raised its record to 11-2.

Clarion's Clint Podish won a 4-2 decision over Patrick Walsh at 184-pounds to put the Golden Eagles in front 15-12. Podish used a takedown with 5 seconds remaining in the third period to notch his win.

Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team travels to NCAA D-II #4 rated Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, February 5th at 7pm at the UPJ Sports Center.

Clarion fourth year head coach Teague Moore leads the Golden Eagles into action with a 5-6 dual meet record and a 2-1 mark in the EWL. The Eagles are coming off a strong performance last weekend on the road with wins at Bloomsburg (22-17) and Princeton (38-6), plus a close loss to Rider (25-19).

(CLARION, PA): Clarion University wrestlers James Fleming (West Mifflin) and Clint Podish (Sycamore) earned "Wrestler of the Week" honors today for their performances last weekend as the Golden Eagles defeated Bloomsburg (22-17) and Princeton (38-6), while losing a close 25-19 decision to Rider.

Fleming earned his award from the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), while Podish was honored by the EWL (Eastern Wrestling League).

EAGLES TOP PRINCETON 38-6 - LOSE TO RIDER 25-19

(Lawrenceville, N.J.): Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team notched a 1-1 record on Saturday as the Golden Eagles went on the road and defeated Princeton 38-6, then lost to Rider by a final of 25-19.

Clarion's overall record is now 5-6 overall, while Rider is 9-7.

The Golden Eagles won 8 of 10 matches at Princeton in punishing the Tigers 38-6. The Eagles had four falls in the match including pins by Cameron Moran at 141, James Fleming at 149, Hadley Harrison at 157 and Alex Thomas at 197.

EAGLE WRESTLERS TOP BLOOM 22-17

(BLOOMSBURG, PA.): Clarion won 6 of 10 bouts, including the final three by Clint Podish at 184, Alex Thomas at 197 and Quintas McCorkle at heavyweight as the Golden Eagles rallied to defeat Bloomsburg 22-17 Friday night in NCAA Division I Wrestling.

Held at Nelson Fieldhouse, Clarion raised its record to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the EWL, while Bloomsburg dropped to 8-7 overall and 0-3 in the EWL.

Trailing 17-13 in team score going to 184 pounds, Clarion sophomore Clint Podish (Sycamore) decisioned Derek Coffey 6-1 to pull the Eagles to within 17-16. Podish had 2 takedowns and a reversal for the win.
