CLARION WRESTLERS TOP EMU 21-12

(Clarion, Pa.): A special Veterans Night Crowd of 1,500 saw Clarion open its NCAA Division I Wrestling season tonight with a 21-12 win over Eastern Michigan.

Clarion won 7 of the 10 bouts wrestled on Friday night at Waldo S. Tippin Gym, a night dedicated to the men and women in the Armed Forces of the USA, who were honored in pre-match ceremonies.

Clarion University=s NCAA Division I Wrestling team is ready to roll out the mats on a new season featuring third year head coach Teague Moore and a young Golden Eagles squad.

The Golden Eagles open their 2008-09 season on Friday, November 21st when Clarion hosts Eastern Michigan at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium. Match time for the "Veterans Day Special" is 7pm. All veterans and active military personnel will be admitted free. Kids will be admitted free with a hand colored 8 ½ X 11 American Flag presented at the door.

CLARION WRESTLERS EXCITING IN BLUE-GOLD EXHIBITION

CLARION, PA: Clarion third year head coach Teague Moore unveiled an exhibition blue-gold match on Friday night to give area wrestling fans a chance to see what the Golden Eagle lineup might look like in the coming season.

Wrestlers had either 2 or 3 matches to wrestle and the several hundred fans that came out got to see some quality wrestling.

Fans of Clarion University Wrestling can get a sneak preview of the 2008-2009 season on Friday, November 14th, when the Golden Eagles feature their "Blue-Gold" matches to start the year. Bouts begin at 6pm at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.

Approximately 29 matches have been set up with members on this year's team roster, with each wrestler participating in at least two bouts. Two mats will be used until the bouts are completed.

HARRISON LOSES TWO "OT" BOUTS AT D-I NATIONALS

(St. Louis, Mo.): Clarion sophomore 149-pounder Hadley Harrison (McKean - General McLane) gave it his all, and was leading in both matches, but lost both in overtime at the NCAA Division I National Wrestling Championships on Thursday.Held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, Harrison, Clarion's lone national qualifier, went 0-2 on day one and is out of the national tournament.

(St. Louis, Mo.): The 78th NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship will begin on Thursday March 20th and end on Saturday March 22nd. The NCAA Wrestling Pot of Gold awaits 10 NCAA Division I wrestlers at "The Scottrade Center" in St. Louis on Saturday, March 22nd, where the "Rainbow" ends and the best collegiate wrestlers in the nation are crowned. Clarion will have 1 NCAA Qualifier competing this year in Hadley Harrison (So. McKean - General McLane) and his opening round opponent will be Oregon State's Kyle Larson.

(Pittsburgh): Clarion 149-pounder wrestler Hadley Harrison (So. McKean - General McLane), the third place finisher at 149 at EWL's, received a wild card selection from the EWL coaches late Saturday night following the completion of the EWL Tournament at Fitzgerald Field House on Saturday March 8th.Harrison will represent the Golen Eagles at the NCAA Division I National Championships which begin on March 20th in St. Louis.

(Pittsburgh, Pa.): Edinboro scored 133 points and won the 33rd Annual EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) Championships on Saturday night at Fitzgerald Field House.Host Pitt finished second with 111 points, West Virginia was third with 103.5, Bloomsburg fourth with 86, Lock Haven fifth with 70.5, Clarion sixth with 55 and Cleveland State seventh with 53 points.

(PITTSBURGH, PA.): Clarion won 5 of 10 bouts and freshman Travis Uncapher (Grapeville) decisioned #7 ranked Matt Kocher, but the Panthers defeated the Golden Eagles 23-15 at Fitzgerald Field House on Wednesday night.The final dual meet of the season for Clarion, the Golden Eagles finished the year with a 10-15-1 dual meet record and a 1-5 mark in the EWL. Pitt is now 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the EWL, heading for a showdown against Edinboro on Saturday night for the league's regular season finale.

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion sophomore Mario Morelli's pin at 174 and sophomore Scott Joseph's technical fall at 184 gave the Golden Eagles an 11-3 lead and Clarion went on to defeat Cleveland State 30-7 on Thursday night in an Eastern Wrestling League dual meet.Held at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium, Clarion raised its overall record to 10-13-1 and 1-3 in the EWL, while the Vikings dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in the EWL.

(Ypsilanti, Mi.): Clarion's Men's Wrestling went 1-1-1 on Saturday at Eastern Michigan University's Bowen Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles defeated Gardner Webb 47-6, rallied to tie Eastern Michigan 16-16 and lost a tough, close match to Northern Illinois 24-17.

EAGLE WRESTLERS LOSE TO RIDER & RUTGERS

(Lawrenceville, N.J.): Clarion traveled to Rider on Saturday afternoon and dropped a double dual against Rider (24-16) and Rutgers (23-9) at Alumni Arena.Clarion opened with a tough 24-16 loss to host Rider, although winning 5 of the 10 matches. The Golden Eagles got wins from Jay Ivanco (Fr. Monreoville) at 125, Travis Uncapher (Fr. Grapeville) at 157, Dom Ross (Jr. Sharon) at 165 and Mario Morelli (So. DuBois) at 174, but it wasn't enough.

BLOOMSBURG WRESTLERS EDGE CLARION 22-15

(Bloomsburg, Pa.): Clarion won four bouts on Friday night, including a pin by Jamie Luckett at 197, but it was not enough as Bloomsburg defeated the Golden Eagles 22-15.Held at Nelson Field House, Clarion's record fell to 8-10 overall and 0-3 in the EWL, while Bloomsburg raised its overall record to 4-6-1 and 1-3 in the EWL.
