HARRISON & IVANCO EARN NWCA HONORS

The NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) has announced its annual NCAA Div. I All-Academic wrestling team for the 2008-09 season and Clarion's Hadley Harrison (Jr. McKean/General McLane) and Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville/Gateway) were named to the squad.

This year's All-Academic Team has 73 individuals representing 45 schools including 51 NCAA Qualifiers, 17 All-Americans, 8 finalists and 5 national champions.

PODISH PSAC WRESTLING "FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR"

(Lock Haven, Pa.): Clarion University Wrestler Clint Podish (Fr. Sycamore/Waynesburg Central) was named today as the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference)Wrestling "Freshman of the Year" for his accomplishments in 2009 in a vote by the PSAC head coaches.

Podish, who wrestled at 184-pounds for the Golden Eagles this season, put together a 20-15 overall record against mostly NCAA Division I competition and notched 4 pins and 4 majors among his 20 wins. Podish also placed second at the PSAC Championships and fifth at the Eastern Wrestling League championships.

IVANCO & HARRISON 0-2 AT D-I NATIONALS

(ST. LOUIS, MO.): Hopes of an NCAA Division I Wrestling medal were dashed on Thursday for Clarion University's 125-pounder Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville/Gateway) and 157-pounder Hadley Harrison (Jr. McKean/General McLane) as both went 0-2 at the Nationals and were eliminated from the tournament.

The 79th Annual NCAA Division I Wrestling Tournament is being held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri and will continue through Saturday night when 10 individual champions and a team champion will be crowned.

(St. Louis, Mo.): The 79th NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship will begin on Thursday March 19th and end on Saturday March 21st. The NCAA Wrestling Pot of Gold awaits 10 NCAA Division I wrestlers at "The Scottrade Center in St. Louis on Saturday, March 21st, where the "Rainbow" ends and the best collegiate wrestlers in the nation are crowned. Clarion will have 2 NCAA Qualifiers competing this year in 125-pounder Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville/Gateway) and 157-pounder Hadley Harrison (Jr. McKean - General McLane ).

JAY IVANCO SECOND AT EWL'S

(LOCK HAVEN, PA.): Clarion's Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville/Gateway) finished second at 125-pounds at the 34th EWL championships on Saturday, qualifying him for the NCAA D-I Nationals starting March 19th in St. Louis, Missouri.

Edinboro won the team title at EWL's with 126.5 points, West Virginia was second with 95.5 points, Bloomsburg third with 88.5, Pittsburgh fourth with 84.5, Lock Haven fifth with 80, Cleveland State sixth with 62 and Clarion seventh with 60.5.

CLARION AT 34TH EWL'S MARCH 7

Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team is ready for its "second season" as the Golden Eagles prepare to compete in the 34th annual EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) Championships.

EWL CHAMPIONSHIPS HAVE 2 SESSIONS

The 2009 EWL's will be hosted at Lock Haven University's Thomas Fieldhouse on Saturday, March 7th. Session 1 is set for 10am and will feature quarterfinal action, followed by semi-finals and Round 1 consolations. Session 2 starts at 5pm and will have the consolation semi=s, followed at 7pm by the championships finals and matches for third and fifth places. A total of 22 wrestlers will qualify for the NCAA Tournament from the EWL's via the new selection system. The new national qualifying system will then identify the next best wrestlers at each weight class who did not qualify across the country to fill out the national bracket.

LOCK HAVEN DEFEATS CLARION 27-13

(LOCK HAVEN, PA.): The Golden Eagles won four bouts but it wasn't enough on Saturday night as Lock Haven defeated Clarion 27-13 in NCAA Division I Wrestling.

Held at Thomas Fieldhouse, Clarion finished the regular season with an 8-14 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the EWL. Lock Haven raised its record to 7-9-1 and 2-4 in the EWL.

WRESTLERS AT LH SATURDAY NIGHT

CLARION DEFEATS CLEVELAND STATE 30-10

(CLEVELAND, OHIO): Clarion won 7 of 10 matches on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Eagles defeated Cleveland State 30-10 in NCAA Division I Wrestling.

Held at Woodling Gym, Clarion raised its record to 8-12 overall and 1-4 in the EWL, and Cleveland State dropped to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the EWL.

PITT DEFEATS CLARION 24-10

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion got wins from Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville), Hadley Harrison (JR. McKean) and Jamie Luckett (Sr. St. Charles, Mo.) but it wasn't enough as visiting Pitt defeated Clarion 24-10 in NCAA Division I Wrestling on Friday night.

Clarion's record dropped to 7-13 overall and 0-4 in the Eastern Wrestling League, while Pitt's record went to 4-6-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the EWL.

CLARION HOSTS PITT FRIDAY/AT CSU SATURDAY

(CLARION, PA): The Clarion University Wrestling team returns to action on Friday, February 13th when the Golden Eagles host EWL rival Pitt at 7pm, then travels to Cleveland State on Saturday for a 2pm EWL matchup.

JOSEPH PSAC "WRESTLER OF THE WEEK"

(Lock Haven, Pa.): Clarion University junior, 174-pound wrestler Scott Joseph (Export/Kiski Area) was named today as the PSAC "Wrestler of the Week", for his performances last weekend for the Golden Eagles.

Joseph put together a 2-0 record last weekend, defeating Bloomsburg's Nate Graham 3-2 and Rider's Mike Ward 3-2.

RIDER EDGES CLARION 19-18

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion led 18-15 heading into heavyweight, but Rider's Ed Bordas posted a major decision and the Broncs defeated Clarion 19-18 in NCAA Division I Wrestling on Saturday afternoon.

Held at Waldo S. Tippin Gym, Clarion drops to 7-12 on the season while Rider raises their dual meet mark to 5-6.

CLARION LOSES 22-12 TO HUSKIES

(CLARION, PA.): The Golden Eagles got wins from Sal Lascari, Scott Joseph, Clint Podish and Roman Husam but it wasn't enough, as Bloomsburg defeated Clarion tonight in NCAA Division I Wrestling 22-12.

Held at W.S. Tippin Gymnasium, Clarion dropped to 7-11 overall and 0-3 in the Eastern Wrestling League, while Bloomsburg is now 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the EWL.

EAGLES HOST BLOOM FRIDAY/RIDER SATURDAY

(CLARION, PA): After posting a 2-1 record last weekend, Clarion's NCAA Division I wrestling team returns to action on Friday hosting rival Bloomsburg at 7pm, then on Saturday at 1pm comes back to Tippin Gym to host Rider.
