(LOCK HAVEN, PA.): Clarion's Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville/Gateway) finished second at 125-pounds at the 34th EWL championships on Saturday, qualifying him for the NCAA D-I Nationals starting March 19th in St. Louis, Missouri.

Edinboro won the team title at EWL's with 126.5 points, West Virginia was second with 95.5 points, Bloomsburg third with 88.5, Pittsburgh fourth with 84.5, Lock Haven fifth with 80, Cleveland State sixth with 62 and Clarion seventh with 60.5.

Ivanco lost by technical fall (24-9; 7:00) in the finals to Edinboro's Paul Donahoe, a 2007 NCAA Champion at 125 at Nebraska (3-time Nebraska All-American) and ranked #1 in the nation this year (He transferred to Edinboro). Ivanco looked great getting to the finals with an opening 10-5 win over Jordan Keller of Cleveland State, then a 5-2 semifinal win over Bloomsburg's Ian Moser. Ivanco raised his season record to 19-12 and will be making his first trip to nationals.

Other Golden Eagles earning places at EWL's include Sal Lascari (Sr. Gray/North Star) third at 141 Jamie Luckett third at 197, Hadley Harrison fourth at 157, Greg Lewis fifth at 141, Clint Podish fifth at 184 and Scott Joseph sixth at 174.

Lascari placed third at 141 in exciting fashion. In his third place match he went to tie breaker and defeated Ricky Donald (Bloomsburg) 8-5. Tied 4-4 in regulation, Lascari scored a reversal in the first tie breaker to lead 6-4. After Donald escaped, Lascari scored a takedown to win 8-5. Sal opened with a 3-1 loss to Donald, but scored a 16-5 major over Zach Kell of LH and then won 12-9 over Steve Waite of WVU before defeating Donald for third. He finished the year with a 17-14 record.

Luckett went 3-1 on the day in placing third at 197-pounds. He defeated Bloom's Jesse Hasseman 4-2, lost 2-1 to LH's Ben Hepburn, then in the wrestle backs he defeated Pitt's Matt Wilps 3-2 tie breaker, and came back to defeat Hasseman for third place 2-1 tie breaker. In the third place match, Luckett escaped first in tie breaker, then rode Hasseman out. Luckett finishes the season with a 22-11 record.

Harrison opened the EWL's with a bye, then lost in the semi's to Bloomsburg's Matt Moley 3-1. In the wrestle backs Harrison defeated Corey Carlo (Cleveland State) 10-3 and for third place he lost to Ryan Goodman (WV) 6-4. Harrison injured his right knee against Carlo and limped noticeably in the third place bout. Hadley has a season record of 20-13.

Lewis won his fifth place match against Edinboro's Torsten Gillespie 8-3. He took Gillespie to his back in the second for a 5-point move and an 8-3 lead the stood through the third. Earlier, in his opening bout, Lewis defeated Gillespie 6-4, lost to Bloom's George Hickman 6-1, and lost to Antonio Nicholson 8-3 before finishing fifth. He finished the year 11-13.

Podish was fifth at 184 with a 2-2 record. He lost his opening bout to WVU's Lance Bryson 2-1 in overtime, then defeated Brian Shaw (Bloom) 7-1, lost to Tom Kocher 3-1 and scored a 13-0 major decision over JT Miller (Cleve. St.) for fifth.

Joseph was sixth at 174 with a 1-3 record. He defeated LH's Travis Stem 9-5, lost 9-3 to WVU's Kurt Brenner, lost to Edinboro's John Foley 8-5 and was pinned by Stem at 6:33.

Freshman Cameron Moran was injured in his opening match, lost to Edinboro's Ricky Deubel by technical fall, and medical foreited his next bout. He finished his season 7-6.

Dominic Ross was also 0-2 at 165 losing his opening bout to Ricky Schmelyun (Bloom) 6-2 and his wrestle back match to LH's Aaron Ernest 6-4. Ross finished with a season record of 10-18.

Heavyweight Roman Husam was also 0-2. He lost 10-2 to CSU's Rashard Goff and in the wrestle backs lost 9-4 to Gabe Murtorff (LH). He finished his season with a record of 6-14.

CLARION NOTES: Harrison could get a wild card selection to the nationals ... 4 qualifying spots left at 157, (33 qualifiers in each bracket), 29 automatic qualifiers have already been given out at 157 ... the next 4 spots at 157 will take the next 4 best non-qualifiers by the overall NCAA formula... The EWL "OW" this year was Bloomsburg's Matt Moley, who defeated Edinboro's Gregor Gillespie 8-5 in the 157-pound final... Gillespie was ranked #1 in the country.
