(CLARION, PA.): Clarion wrestlers Clint Podish and Nick Milano finished second and a total of 9 Golden Eagle wrestlers earned places at the Knight Point Clarion Open, held Saturday, November 7th. Podish, a sophomore, won his first three matches against Patrick Smith (USMA) 17-2, Logan Shirey (Pitt) 8-1 and Derek Stanley (USMA) by pin at 1:56, before losing in the finals to David Thompson (Bucknell) 2-0. Milano, a freshman, was 4-1 in finishing second. He opened with a 4-1 win over Andrik Cruz (Maryland), then defeated Phil Sorrentino (American) 3-2, Sean Joyce (USMA) 7-1 and Pitt's Adam Counterman (3-2 before losing in the finals to Andy Rendos (Buckenll). Finishing third were Hadley Harrison (Sr. McKean/General McLane) at 157, Alex Thomas (Fr. Seaford, De./Sussex Tech) at 197 and sophomore Quintas McCorkle (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) at 285. Placing fourth were Joe Waltko (Fr. Allison Park/N. Allegheny) at 125 and Jay Ivanco (Jr. Monroeville/Gateway) at 133, fifth was Steven Cressley (Fr. Punxsutawney) at 174 and sixth was Greg Lewis (Sr. New Providence/Lampeter-Strasburg) at 149. Clarion's Blue - Gold Match is Friday, November 13th at W.S. Tippin Gym at 6pm. |
