The NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) has announced its annual NCAA Div. I All-Academic wrestling team for the 2008-09 season and Clarion's Hadley Harrison (Jr. McKean/General McLane) and Jay Ivanco (So. Monroeville/Gateway) were named to the squad.

This year's All-Academic Team has 73 individuals representing 45 schools including 51 NCAA Qualifiers, 17 All-Americans, 8 finalists and 5 national champions.

"This is a very prestigious honor for Hadley and Jay and we're certainly proud to have them in a Clarion singlet," said head coach Teague Moore. "They are dedicated student-athletes and great representatives of the university, their families and themselves."

Harrison, a junior, has a 3.34QPA and is an Elementary Education major at Clarion. Harrison posted a 20-15 overall record in 2009 at 157-pounds, placed third at PSAC's, fourth at EWL's and earned a wild card selection to the NCAA D-I Nationals. He was also 2-2 at the prestigious Midlands Tournament and has been a team captain for two seasons. In 2008 Harrison was Clarion's Male Athlete of the Year after posting a 23-12 record at 149-pounds, placing third at EWL's and qualifying for the D-I Nationals. He was also 3rd at PSAC's. In 2007 as a freshman Hadley was 21-19 overall at 149-pounds and 5th at EWL's and 6th at PSAC's. In his career Harrison has an overall record of 64-45.

Ivanco, a red-shirt sophomore, has a 3.311 QPA in Elementary Education. He had his best season in 2009 posting an overall record of 19-14 at 125-pounds, was the PSAC Champion, placed second at EWL's and sixth at the prestigious Midlands Tournament. In 2008 he was 27-13 overall at 125-pounds, third at EWL's and fourth at PSAC's. In two seasons he owns an overall record of 46-27.

CLARION NOTES: There were 5 wrestlers on the All-Academic Team representing the Eastern Wrestling League .... Clarion had Harrison and Ivanco; Edinboro had Jarrod King and Torsten Gillespie and West Virginia had Dustin Rogers... Cleveland State, Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Pittsburgh did not have representatives on the team... Other Pa. Schools with reps included Franklin and Marshall (Justin Herbert), Millersville (Raymond Bennett) and Penn State (Jake Strayer)... The Golden Eagles are coached by third year mentor Teague Moore - A North Allegheny High Grad - Clarion had a dual meet record of 8-14 this season.
