Following a third place finish at the PSAC's last Saturday, the Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, December 14th when Clarion travels to Kent State to take on the Golden Flashes at 3pm. The match can be heard on WWHC-Radio (1300 AM) and on the internet at redzonemedia.com. The Golden Eagles, under third year head coach Teague Moore, enter the dual with a 2-2 overall record, having defeated Eastern Michigan 21-12 and Columbia 30-12, while losing to Rutgers 21-15 and #13 ranked Boise State 31-6. Clarion has two nationally ranked wrestlers taking the mats with 157-pounder Hadley Harrison (6-2) ranked 18th by Intermat and 19th by Amateur Wrestling News, and Jay Ivanco (6-1) who is 19th by AWN at 125. Kent State enters the dual meet with a 2-1 dual meet record under sixth year head coach Jim Andrassy. The Flashes opened with dual wins over Tennessee-Chattanooga (32-10) and Campbellsville (30-12), with a loss to #20 Northwestern (21-8) at the Boilermaker Challenge on November 15th. Kent State was also second as a team at the Body Bar Invitational as Drew Lashaway (141) and Jermail Porter (HWT) won their respective weight classes. Kent State's lineup features four ranked wrestlers including Dan Mitcheff (12th/13th) at 133, Drew Lashaway (19th AWN) at 141, Dustin Kilgore (7th/7th) at 184 and Jermail Porter (10th/9th) at heavyweight. Last year at Clarion's W.S. Tippin Gym, Kent defeated Clarion 21-9. Clarion led 9-6 after five weights (141-174), but the Flashes won the final 5 weights to post the victory. Clarion leads the series between the two schools 12-5 and last won in the 2000-01 season by a 23-12 margin. Clarion's lineup will likely have Jay Ivanco (6-1, So. Monroeville/Gateway) at 125, Cameron Moran (2-2, Fr. James City/Kane) at 133, Sal Lascari (5-4, Sr. Gray) at 141, Greg Lewis (5-3, Jr. New Providence) at 149, Hadley Harrison (6-2, Jr. McKean) at 157, Dominic Ross (4-4, Sr. Sharon) at 165, Scott Joseph (5-3, Jr. Export) at 174, Clint Podish (9-5, Fr. Sycamore/Waynesburg Central) at 184, Dixon Jordan (0-0, Jr., Cheverly, Md.) or Jamie Luckett (9-3, Sr. St. Charles, Mo.) at 197 and either Quintas McCorkle (1-6, Fr. Alexandria, Va.) or Roman Husam (0-0, So. Lewisburg) at heavyweight. Kent's lineup will have Nic Bedelyon (6-4, So.) at 125, Danny Mitceff (8-2, Jr.) at 133, Drew Lashaway (10-2, Sr.) at 141, Clint Sponseller (5-4, Sr.) at 149, Ross Tice (7-5, Fr.) at 157, Obie Simpson (4-4, Jr.) at 165, Chris Estep (7-3, So.) at 174, Dutsin Kilgore (9-2, Fr.) at 184, Eric Chine (6-4, Sr.) at 197 and Jermail Porter (2-1, Sr.) at 285. CLARION NOTES: Bedelyon was the MAC Champion at 125 last year ... Clarion will have a busy day on Dec. 20th - hosting #20 Northwestern at North Allegheny High at Noon, and then returning to Clarion to host Pitt-Johnstown for a 7pm matchup. |
