![]() EAGLES FALL TO FINDLAY CLARION - Four players scored in double figures, but the Clarion University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a slow start dropping a 78-67 decision to visiting Findlay Wednesday night at Clarion's Tippin Gym. Findlay (1-0) raced out to a 22-12 lead seven minutes into the game and actually got the lead up to 18, 57-39, midway through the second half. The Oilers still led by 17, 69-52, with 6:12 to play, but Clarion (2-1) went on a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to seven, 72-65, with 1:18 to play on an unconventional four-point play by Lizzie Suwala. [+]![]() PARSONS GETS 400TH CAREER WIN CLARION - Clarion University women's basketball coach Margaret "Gie" Parsons won her 400th career game Sunday evening when the Golden Eagles defeated Alderson-Broaddus 70-50 at Clarion's Tippin Gym in the second day of the Clarion Classic. "I have to thank all of the players I've had," Parsons said. "This is really a `players' award. Without all the great players I've coached over the years, this won't be possible. I want to say thank you to all of them." [+]![]() EAGLES START SEASON WITH WIN CLARION - The Clarion women's basketball celebrated the start of the 2008-09 season with a 72-60 win over visiting Bowie State on the opening day of the two-day Clarion Classic Saturday evening at Tippin Gym. Katrina Greer came within two points of a career-high with 29 points, while Bethany Koch pumped in a career-high 17 points to lead the Golden Eagle scorers. Lizzie Suwala added a double-double with 11 points and a career-best 14 rebounds, and Sara Pratt had a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with five points, six assists and five blocked shots. With the five blocks, Pratt moves past Heather Cigich (82 career blocks) into third place all-time in Clarion history with 86 career swats. [+]CLARION TO START SEASON SAT. & SUN.
