Clarion Knocks Off Pitt-Johnstown in Clarion Classic

CLARION - For the second straight night, the Clarion University women's basketball team had five players score in double figures, and the Golden Eagles knocked off Pitt-Johnstown 81-59 on Day Two of the Clarion Classic.

Senior point guard Ashley Grimm led Clarion (2-0) with 18 points, five assists and two steals. In the process, she moved into second place in school history in assists with 411 passing Amy Migyanka (407).

Sara Pratt added 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks, and Katrina Greer had 13 points. My'Kea Cohill added 12 points and Janelle Zabresky chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

Kristin Irwin led Pitt-Johnstown with 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Krista Britcher added 10 points and six boards off the bench.

Clarion led 38-36 at halftime thanks to a half-ending 14-4 run fueled by two three-pointers from freshman Shaina Smith.

The Golden Eagles then started the second half with a 16-4 run to take control of the game.

Clarion returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Point Park at 5 p.m.
