GRIMM RECEIVES NGCA AWARD

(Coral Springs, Florida): Clarion golfer Ashley Grimm (Sugarloaf/Hazelton) was honored recently by the National Golf Coaches Association with the 2008-09 Kim Moore Spirit Award. The award is given annually (since 2005) to one female golfer in NCAA Divisions I, II and III in honor of the former University of Indianapolis player.

Grimm, a four-year women's basketball standout at Clarion through the spring of 2008, was a graduate assistant in Women's Basketball in 2008-09, and also had one year of eligibility remaining. She walked onto the Clarion University Women's Golf Team this year, a program in its inaugural season of competition, and made a strong contribution both on and off the course. Ashley is the daughter of Richard and Jane Grimm of Sugarloaf, Pa.

VEIGHTS LEADS CLARION AT MERCYHURST SPRING INVITE

ERIE - Clarion freshman Samantha Veights had a strong second day to finish tied for 19th at the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational Women's Golf match Saturday and Sunday at the Downing Golf Course in Erie.

Veights, who shot a two-day 174, improved her play by 10 strokes Sunday shooting an 82 after an opening round 92 Saturday. Her second-day round helped Clarion shot 801 (411-390) for the event good for sixth place.

VEIGHTS 4TH AT SETON HILL

(GREENSBURG, PA.): Clarion University's Samantha Veights (Fr. Pgh. - Mt. Lebanon) shot an 84 and the Golden Eagle Women's Golf team finished third of five teams in the rain shortened Sally Carroll Open hosted by Seton Hill.

The teams were scheduled to play 18-holes on Sunday and Monday, but the Monday round was cancelled due to inclement weather.

EAGLE WOMEN GOLFERS 2ND AT W&J

(Canonsburg, Pa.): Clarion's Ashley Grimm shot a 96 on Monday and helped Clarion to a second place tie at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational played at Southpointe Golf Club.

Grimm shot a 50-46, 96 on a very cold, blustery day for golf, while teammate Samantha Veights tied for fifth with a 50-47, 97.

(Brookville, Pa.): Shortened to 9-holes because of inclement weather, Franklin & Marshall edged Clarion in Women's Golf action on Sunday, March 29th 219-222 at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville, Pa.

Clarion freshman Samantha Veights posted a 49, while Ashley Grimm carded a 51, Jennifer Suffern a 58 and Krista Matarrese 64 for Clarion's 222 score.

VEIGHTS 88 EARNS 2ND AT GROVE CITY

(Grove City, Pa.): Clarion freshman Samantha Veights fired a 47-41, 88 and placed second in medal play on Saturday at the Grove City College Invitational played at the Grove City Country Club,

Washington & Jefferson won the team competition with a total of 377, Grove City was second with a 388, Baldwin Wallace third at 400, Clarion fourth with a 412, Westminster fifth at 417 and Franklin and Marshall sixth at 425.

WOMEN'S GOLF AT GROVE CITY SAT/HOST F&M SUNDAY

Clarion University's Women's Golf team, in its inaugural season as an intercollegiate sport, begins its Spring schedule this weekend participating at the Grove City Invitational on Saturday and hosting Franklin and Marshall on Sunday at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville.

The Golden Eagles will use five players over the weekend including Samantha Veights (Pgh- Mt. Lebanon) at #1, former Eagle basketball standout Ashley Grimm (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) at #2, Jennifer Suffern (Carnegie - Chartiers Valley) at #3, Katie O'Neil (Knox - Keystone) at #4 and Krista Matarrese (Leechburg - Kiski Area) at #5.

CLARION VISITS LOCAL FOOD BANK

(Clarion, Pa.): With Thanksgiving fast approaching, the Clarion University Athletic Department, led by its (S.A.A.C) Committee and including all 16 varsity intercollegiate athletic programs, donated approximately 10,000 non-perishable food items to the Clarion County Community Action Food Bank.

The food donation was made on Thursday, November 20th, one week prior to Thanksgiving. Members of the SAAC Committee, intercollegiate athletes, coaches and administrative staff all helped in loading a big delivery truck, then taking the items to the food bank where they unloaded for general use.

WOMEN'S GOLF SIXTH AT PSAC WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP

HERSHEY - Playing in its first-ever PSAC women's golf championship, the Clarion University women's golf team finished sixth Sunday at the Hershey Golf Links (formerly Wren Dale).

Graduate student Ashley Grimm (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) led the way for Clarion, under first-year head coach Marie Gritzer, finishing 26th with a two-round total of 195 (96-99).

CLARION 10TH AT GANNON INVITATIONAL

(Erie, Pa.): Clarion's Women's Golf Team finished 10th on Sunday at the Gannon Invitational Golf Tournament held at Green Meadows Golf Course.

California won the team title with a two-day total of 624, with Ashland second at 653 and Kutztown third with a 664. Clarion was 10th of 10 teams and finished with a total of 814.

GOLDEN EAGLE WOMEN 10TH AT FINDLAY

(Arlington, Ohio) Clarion's Women's Golf team finished 10th today in the Findlay Invitational Tournament held at the Sycamore Springs Golf Club.The 36-hole course played to a par 72 over the two days and Ferris State won the event with a 604, with Grand Valley second at 606 and Ashland third with a 637. Clarion finished 10th with a 793.

(East Stroudsburg): Clarion's Women's Golf team played in their inaugural event as an intercollegiate team and placed third out of four teams on Sunday at the East Stroudsburg Invitational Tournament.Held at the Water Gap Country Club, Mercyhurst won the team event with a total of 539, while West Chester was second at 573, Clarion third with a 589 and East Stroudsburg fourth with a 668.

INAUGURAL WOMEN'S GOLF SEASON STARTS SATURDAY

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion University's Women's Golf team will start its inaugural season as an intercollegiate sport on Saturday, September 6th when the Golden Eagles travel to East Stroudsburg.The Golden Eagles will be part of four teams playing at the Water Gap Country Club with 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. Also participating are East Stroudsburg, Mercyhurst and West Chester.
