CLARION - The Clarion University softball team played the 19th ranked team in the nation, Bloomsburg, tough before losing both ends of a doubleheader to the visiting Huskies Thursday afternoon at Memorial Field. The Golden Eagles dropped Game One 4-0 and Game Two 8-0 in five innings. In Game One, Danielle Cecire scattered 13 hits but didn't allow Bloomsburg any big innings. The Huskies (24-4 overall, 9-1 PSAC-Central) scored solo runs in the second, fourth, sixth and seventh. Clarion had three hits in the game led by Carlie Cook, who was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Rachelle Yarger also had a base knock for the Golden Eagles (4-22, 0-10). Cecire went the distance allowing the four earned runs while walking one and striking out one. In Game Two, Bloomsburg used a four-run third and a three-run fourth to account for seven of its eight runs. Clarion had two base runners in the game, both of whom reached on errors. Lindsay Vevers took the loss going 3 1/3 innings and allowing eight runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out one. Caitlin Lamison pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief allowing no hits and one walk. Clarion returns action Saturday Lake Erie. |
