MALONEY WINS PSAC SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD

LOCK HAVEN - Clarion University junior swimmer Jamie Maloney (York/Dallastown) is the inaugural female winner of the PSAC Sportsmanship Award.

The award is given to one male and one female student-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and who has demonstrated the values of respect and integrity through a specific action ideally directed toward an opponent. Nominees must also have represented his/her institution in a positive way during competition and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of competition by fostering a good public image.

KELOSKY/HROVAT EARN NCAA D-II

(Houston, Texas): Clarion University sophomore diver Kayla Kelosky (Ellwood City - Riverside) was named the NCAA Division II Women's "Diver of the Year" and coach Dave Hrovat was named Women's Diving "Coach of the Year" following the NCAA Division II Nationals on Saturday night.

The D-II Nationals were held at the University of Houston's Wellness and Recreation Center and were part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival. The vote is done by all swimming and diving coaches at nationals and is sponsored by the CSCAA.

KELOSKY WINS 3 METER NATIONAL TITLE

(Houston, Texas): Clarion University sophomore diver Kayla Kelosky (Ellwood City - Riverside) won the 3 Meter Diving national title on Saturday, to go with the 1 Meter title she won on Thursday night, while Clarion finished in 7th place as a team at the NCAA Division II Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships hosted at the University of Houston. Also held at the same venue, the Clarion Men's Swimming and Diving Team finished 13th in the D-II Men's competition.

Held at the University of Houston's Wellness and Recreation Center, and part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival, Drury won the women's team title with 618.5 points, Wayne State was second with 453.5, Cal San Diego third with 425 and Clarion seventh with 210.5 points.

CLARION'S PEARSALL 2ND/SIMENS 3RD AT D-II NATIONALS

(Houston, Texas): Clarion University sophomore diver Logan Pearsall (Port Allegany) finished second in 1 Meter Diving and senior Denise Simens (Hollister, Ca.) was third in the 100 breaststroke as Clarion University Swimming and Diving competed in Day three of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships hosted at the University of Houston.

Held at the University of Houston's Wellness and Recreation Center, and part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival, Wayne State leads the men's team scoring with 404.5 points, Drury is second with 368 and Missouri S&T is third with 216. Clarion is in 11th place with 103.5 points.

CLARION'S KELOSKY WINS 1 METER NATIONAL TITLE

(Houston, Texas): Clarion University sophomore diver Kayla Kelosky (Ellwood City - Riverside) won the 1 Meter Diving national title and Clarion jumped to 5th place as a team on Day 2 of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships hosted at the University of Houston.

Held at the University of Houston's Wellness and Recreation Center, and part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival, Drury is in first place with 285.5 points, Wayne State is second with 206, Cal San Diego third with 199, Truman State fourth with 163 and Clarion fifth with 132.5 points.

CLARION'S JOHNSON/200 MED. RELAY SET RECORDS

(Houston, Texas): Clarion University sophomore swimmer Kaitlyn Johnson (Uniontown) and the Golden Eagle 200 Medley Relay team both finished fourth and broke Clarion records at nationals Wednesday night, while the Golden Eagles held down 7th place as a team on the first day of the NCAA Division II Men's Swimming and Diving National Championships hosted at the University of Houston.

Held at the University of Houston's Wellness and Recreation Center, and part of the NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival, Wayne State leads the women's team scoring with 114 points, Drury is second with 82.5 and Cal San Diego is third with 74 points. Clarion is in seventh place with 44.5 points after day one.

EAGLE SWIMMERS & DIVERS AT NATIONALS MARCH 11-14

(Houston, Texas): Clarion's Women's Swimming and Diving team is ready for the NCAA Division II National Championships this week and are looking for some top performances. The NCAA's will be hosted at the University of Houston's Campus Wellness and Recreation Center from March 11-14 as part of the NCAA D-II Winter Sports Festival. Prelims will start each day at 10:30am with finals starting at 5:30pm.

Clarion ninth year head coach Mark VanDyke is looking forward to the NCAA's, after leading the Women to a second place finish at the 2009 PSAC Championships.

WOMEN FINISH SECOND AT 34TH PSAC'S

(Mechanicsburg, Pa.): Clarion's Denise Simens (Sr. Holister, Ca.) won the 200 breaststroke in record fashion and Kaitlyn Johnson (So. Uniontown), and the 400 free relay team swam NCAA Qualifying times as the Golden Eagles finished second at the 34th Annual PSAC Women's Swimming Championships on Sunday.

Held at Cumberland Valley High School, West Chester won the team title with 660.5 points, Clarion second with 560, California third with 495, Gannon fourth with 352.5 and IUP fifth with 287.5 points. The 14 team field had Edinboro sixth at 286, Kutztown seventh with 267.5, Shippensburg eighth with 262.5, Lock Haven ninth with 141, Bloomsburg tenth with 124.5, East Stroudsburg eleventh with 99, Millersville twelfth at 64, Slippery Rock thirteenth with 42 and Mansfield fourteenth at 36.

Uniontown), Denise Simens (Sr. Hollister, Ca.) and the 200 medley relay teams win PSAC crowns, but defending champion West Chester holds a 32.5 point lead over Clarion with one day remaining in the 34th Annual PSAC Women's Swimming Championships.

Held at Cumberland Valley High School, West Chester leads the team scoring with 438.5, Clarion is second with 405, California third at 342, Gannon fourth with 264 and Indiana fifth with 222.5 points. The 14 team field has Edinboro sixth at 203, Kutztown seventh with 188, Shippensburg eighth with 172.5, Lock Haven ninth with 101, East Stroudsburg tenth with 75, Bloomsburg eleventh with 73.5, Millersville twelfth at 50, Slippery Rock thirteenth with 34 and Mansfield fourteenth at 30.

EAGLE WOMEN FIRST AT 34TH PSAC'S

(Mechanicsburg, Pa.): Clarion's Women's Swimming team swam very fast on Friday, notching three school records and 5 NCAA D-II Qualifying times in carrying the Golden Eagles to an early lead at the 34th PSAC Women's Swimming Championships held at Cumberland Valley High School.

The Golden Eagles lead with 206 team points, West Chester is second with 193.5, California is third with 145, Gannon fourth at 127 and IUP fifth with 123.5.

EAGLE WOMEN AT 34TH PSAC'S FEB. 19-22

The 34th Annual PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Women's Swimming Championships will be hosted from Thursday February 19th through Sunday February 22nd at Cumberland Valley High School.

Only one event, the 1000 meter freestyle, will be competed on Thursday at 6:30pm. From Friday through Sunday prelims are set each day at 10am, with Finals on Friday and Saturday at 6pm, and Sunday at approximately 5:30pm. The Men's PSAC Championship will also run at the same time in an alternating event format.

SIMENS PSAC "SWIMER OF THE WEEK"

Clarion University Women's Swimmer Denise Simens (Sr. Hollister, Ca.) was named the PSAC Women's "Swimmer of the Week" for her performances at the Pitt Invitational last Saturday.

The Golden Eagles posted a 3-1 dual meet record on Saturday losing to Division I Pitt 191-106, while defeating California (231-21), Carnegie Mellon (214-44) and Slippery Rock (233-41).

KELOSKY/PEARSALL LEAD DIVERS AT PITT/YSU

Clarion University's Women's and Men's Divers had a strong weekend at the Pitt and YSU Invitationals winning 5 of 8 total events under the leadership of 16-time Division II "Coach of the Year" Dave Hrovat (19th season).

In Women's Diving Kayla Kelosky (So. Ellwood City/Riverside) finished first and third at the Pitt Invitation on Saturday, then won both boards at the Youngstown State Invitational on Sunday.

EAGLE WOMEN 3-1 AT PITT INVITE

(Pittsburgh, Pa.): Clarion University's talented Women's Swim team posted an impressive 3-1 record on Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh Invitational meet at Trees Hall.

Clarion defeated California 231-21, Carnegie Mellon 214-44 and Slippery Rock 233-41, before losing to NCAA Division I Pitt by a final of 191-106.Clarion notched five, first place finishes in the meet and were led by individual winners Denise Simens (Sr. Hollister, Ca.) and Kaitlyn Johnson (So. Uniontown).

EAGLE WOMEN TOP IUP 126-79

(Indiana, Pa.): Clarion's Women's Swim team posted a 126-79 win over IUP on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Natatrium.

Leading the way in individual events for Clarion was double winner Kelly Connolly (So. Cranberry Twp.) who captured the 50 freestyle (24.92) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.98) races.
