DUQUESNE DOWNS EAGLE WOMEN 137-100

(CLARION): Clarion's Women's Swimming and Diving team lost its first dual meet of the season when Division I Duquesne topped the Golden Eagles 137-100 at Waldo S. Tippin Natatorium on Friday night. Clarion is now 2-1 this season.

Diver Jena Gardone was a double winner for the Eagles winning the 1 meter (225.15) and 3 meter (246.30) competitions.

(Pittsburgh): Clarion's Women's Swimming and Diving team moved its dual meet record to 2-0 on Saturday with a 154-145 win over Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.

Denise Simens (Sr. Hollister, Ca.), Kelly Connolly (So. Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) and Jena Gardone (Jr. Apollo/Kiski) were double winners in individual events for the Golden Eagles.

(CLARION, PA): Clarion's Women's Swimming and Diving team started the dual meet season with a 173-122 win over Shippensburg on Saturday at Tippin Natatorium.

In individual events, Gina Mattucci (So. Jeannette/Penn Trafford) was a double winner taking the 100 backstroke (1:01.60) and the 200 back (2:13.78).

(CLARION, PA): The 2008-09 Clarion Women's Swimming team opened action on Friday and Saturday at Tippin Natatorium in the Clarion Classic Invitational.

The Golden Eagle Women finished second with 586.5 points, behind Gorve City who won the event with 833.5 points. Westminster finished third with 174, Lock Haven fourth at 143, Slippery Rock fifth with 99 and Frostburg sixth with 76.

"LEARN TO SWIM/DIVE" CLASSES ANNOUNCED

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion University head swimming coach Mark VanDyke has announced the annual "Learn To Swim" and "Learn To Dive" program for the Fall. The programs are offered for those children ranging in abilities from non-swimmer to swimmer, plus Parent-Child classes and Competitive swimming. Registration will take place at Clarion University's W.S. Tippin Gym Lobby on Tuesday September 2nd and Wednesday September 3rd from 5:30pm-7:00pm.

Clarion's Women's Swimming and Diving team placed a strong 8th at the recently completed NCAA Division II Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships, under 8th year head coach Mark VanDyke.Held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Missouri, Clarion scored 190 points to finish in eoghth place. Truman State won the women's nationals with 461.5 points, Drury was second with 449, North Dakota third with 324, Cal San Diego fourth with 302 and Nebraska-Omaha 242 points.
