LEUSCHEL TOP TEN AWARD WINNER

LOCK HAVEN - Clarion University senior tennis player Kassie Leuschel (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic) was named June 17 as a recipient of the 2009 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Spring Academic Top Ten Award.

Lauschel is one of only five female PSAC athletes and 10 PSAC athletes to earn the award, which is voted on by the league's Sports Information Directors recognizing student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom as well in the arena of competition, during the spring competition season.

CLARION DEFEATS SETON HILL 9-0

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion's Women's Tennis Team closed its 2009 season on Friday evening with a 9-0 win over Seton Hill at the Campbell Courts.

Clarion finished its 2008-09 season with an overall record of 10-7 and a 2-3 mark in the PSAC-West.

(NEW CASTLE, PA.): Clarion swept all nine matches on Wednesday to defeat Shippensburg 9-0 in a PSAC-West Women's Tennis matchup at the North Beaver Tennis Club in New Castle, Pa.

Clarion raised its overall record to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC-West.

SHIP MATCH MOVED TO NEW CASTLE

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion head coach Lori Sabatose announced on Tuesday night that because of the expected inclement weather, Clarion will move its tennis match on Wednesday to the North Beaver Tennis Club, located in New Castle, Pa.

EAGLE NETTERS LOSE AT ALLEGHENY 6-3

(Meadville, Pa.): Clarion's Jaclyn Metzger and Kassie Leuschel won their singles matches, and together won at #1 doubles, but those were the Eagles only points as Clarion lost at Allegheny 6-3 on Thursday afternoon.

Clarion drops to 8-7 overall and Allegheny pushes their record to 10-6. Clarion will host Shippensburg next Wednesday.

EAGLES LOSE 8-1 TO #29 SR

(ERIE, PA.): Clarion's doubles tandem of Megan Parsons and Devin Rombach won at #3 doubles, but 29th ranked Slippery Rock won two doubles and six singles matches to defeat Clarion 8-1 on Tuesday night at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.

Parsons and Rombach defeated Lara Rizzi and Casey Runyan of Slippery Rock 8-6 to score Clarion's lone point on Tuesday night.

CLARION NETTERS TOP IUP 9-0

(Indiana, Pa.): Clarion University's Women's Tennis team swept all six singles matches and three doubles matches to defeat IUP 9-0 on Monday afternoon.

The win moves the Golden Eagles to 8-5 on the season and 1-2 in the PSAC-Western Division, while IUP dropped to 2-14 and 0-2 in the PSAC-West.

MERCYHURST NETTERS TOP CLARION 7-2

(ERIE, PA.): Clarion's Haylee Gardner won at #4 singles and the doubles tandem of Devin Rombach and Megan Parsons also won at #3 doubles, but it wasn't enough on Sunday as the Golden Eagles lost at Mercyhurst 7-2 at the Westwood Racquet Club.

Mercyhurst raised its record to 9-8 overall, while Clarion dropped to 7-5 this season.

#12 CAL DEFEATS CLARION 9-0

(CLARION, PA.): The PSAC-West Women's Tennis season opened at Clarion's Campbell Courts on Saturday afternoon as 12th ranked California defeated the Golden Eagles 9-0.

Clarion's record drops to 7-4 overall, while California raises its season record 15-2.

(HILTON HEAD, SC.): Clarion's #3 doubles team of Haylee Gardner and Megan Parsons provided the winning point on Wednesday leading the Golden Eagles to a 5-4 win over East Stroudsburg in Women's Tennis action.

The win gives Clarion and overall record of 7-2, including a 3-1 mark in the Spring and 2-1 record on the Spring Trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

HUKIES TOP CLARION 9-0

(HILTON HEAD, SC.): Clarion received strong efforts from Haylee Gardner, Jaclyn Metzger and Kassie Leuschel, but Bloomsburg was too strong as the Huskies swept Clarion in Women's Tennis play 9-0 on Tuesday.

The loss puts Clarion's overall season record at 6-2, including a 2-1 mark in the Spring and 1-1 on the Spring Trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

(HILTON HEAD, SC.): The Clarion women's tennis team upped their Spring record to 2-0 on Tuesday, March 3, as the Golden Eagles defeated Elizabethtown 7-2 in a match held in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The start of the Eagles Spring trip, Clarion got wins at #1 singles from Jaclyn Metzger who defeated Emily Swarr (E), 6-3, 6-2, #2 with Kassie Leuschel topping Jessica Russell (E) 3-6, 6-3, 10-6, #3 with Sharayah Campbell defeating Sarah Poulie(E) 6-0, 6-1, #5 Haylee Gardner (C) def. Ashton Heydt (E) 6-1, 6-1 and #6 Megan Parson (C) taking Erika Belletti (E) 6-1, 6-4.

CLARION NETTERS DEFEAT WEST CHESTER 7-2

(PHILADELPHIA, PA.): The Clarion women's tennis team opened the 2009 Spring campaign with a quality 7-2 win over West Chester at the Arthur Ashe Youth Teaching & Education Center in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, February 22nd.

In singles play Clarion got wins at #1 singles from Jaclyn Metzger who defeated Maria Kostaris (WC), 6-1, 6-3; #3 singles with Sharayah Campbell defeating Kara Shumock (WC) 6-2, 6-3; #4 Devin Rombach defeating Bridget Dougherty (WC) 7-6, 7-5 and #6 Megan Parson (C) taking Chantelle Lessard-Chaudoin (WC) 6-0, 6-1.

KASSIE LEUSCHEL WINS NIRSA AWARD

(Corvallis, Oregon): Clarion Women's Tennis Player Kassie Leuschel (St. Marys/Elk County Catholic), has been named a winner of the William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Award sponsored by NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.

Clarion head coach Lori Sabatose, who is also the Recreation Center Director at Clarion University, nominated her for the award. Leuschel was one of only 23 recipients of this award nation-wide as an undergraduate student.

LEUSCHEL 1-1 AT PSAC INDIVIDUALS

(Bloomsburg): Clarion Women's Tennis player Kassie Leuschel was 1-1 over the weekend at the PSAC Individual Championships held at Bloomsburg.

Leuschel, unseeded, defeated Lindsay Knappenberger (Millersville) 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets to advance to the second round. Against #2 seed Kayla Blackburn (SR), Leuschel won the first set 6-3, but lost the second 6-0 and the third set tie breaker 10-3.
