LOCK HAVEN - Clarion University senior tennis player Lisa Baumgartner (West Middlesex/Wilmington) was recently honored as a Spring Top Ten Award winner by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Baumgartner earned the award, which is selected by the PSAC's sports information directors and recognizes student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom as well as in the arena of competition, by carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA in the field of speech pathology and audiology and by co-captaining the Golden Eagle tennis team with an individual record of 5-3 in singles and 6-5 in doubles during the spring season. She finished the combined 2007-2008 fall and spring season with a 10-7 singles' mark and an 8-9 doubles' record. Among her career highlights was receiving the 2007 NCAA Division II Sportsmanship Award. She finished her career with 50 singles and 47 doubles wins playing much of her career at the No. 2 spot. To be a candidate for the Top Ten Awards, which goes to five male athletes and five female athletes in each of the three sports seasons - fall, winter and spring -, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and must be a starter of key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. Only student-athletes from the spring sports seasons are eligible for the Spring Top Ten Awards. Those sports are: baseball, softball, women's lacrosse, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis and golf. NOTES - Baumgartner is the fourth Clarion female athlete (out of a maximum eight) to earn a Top Ten award this year joining Kristi Fiorillo (Fall - volleyball), Ashley Grimm (Winter - women's basketball) and Teagan Riggs (Winter - women's swimming & diving). The four Clarion female Top Ten Award winners tied Bloomsburg for the most female Top Ten Award winners during the 2007-2008 school year, and Clarion was the only school with four different female Top Ten Award honorees during the year. |
