ANDRUSZ 2ND TEAM PSAC-WEST

LOCK HAVEN - Clarion University sophomore middle hitter Nicole Andrusz was named second-team All-PSAC-West Wednesday.

It is the eighth straight season and the 13th time in the last 14 years Clarion has had at least one all-conference player.

SLIPPERY ROCK - A young Clarion University women's volleyball team just missed its second straight PSAC Playoff berth falling 3-1 at Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles (16-15 overall, 5-7 PSAC-West) needed a win over The Rock to claim one of the four playoff berths awarded to the PSAC-West but fell by scores of 18-25, 25-23, 23-25, 17-25.

TWO EAGLES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

CLARION - Clarion University's Katie Aurand and Nicole Andrusz have been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's volleyball team.

Aurand (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Ladywood), a junior, is a first-team District 2 College Division selection who carries a 4.0 GPA in Biology/Pre-Med. A defensive specialist, she has played in 74 sets this season and is fourth on the team with 131 digs (1.77 dpg) while adding 21 service aces. By virtue of her first-team selection, she is now eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America.

(Philippi, W.V.): Clarion's Women's Volleyball team traveled to Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday night and lost 3-0 by final scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were Nicole Andrusz who had 9 kills, with Sarah Sheffield contributing 6 kills. Kellie Bartman also had 5 kills and 5 digs, while Amanda Gough handed out 23 set assists, 5 digs and 2 kills.

CLARION KEEPS PSAC PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE

CLARION - Leeann Higginbotham and Kellie Bartman each had 10 kills to lead the Clarion University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over visiting Mercyhurst Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym.

With the victory the Golden Eagles keep their PSAC Playoff hopes alive. Clarion can clinch a PSAC playoff berth with a win at Slippery Rock next Saturday.

EDINBORO - The Clarion University women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision at Edinboro in a PSAC-West match Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles (15-13 overall, 4-6 PSAC-West) dropped the first set 25-22 before rallying to win the second 25-23. The third set then turned out to be a heartbreaking loss for Clarion, as Edinboro pulled out a 29-27 win. The Fighting Scots then closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.

LOCK HAVEN - Clarion University sophomore middle hitter Nicole Andrusz (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) is the PSAC-West women's volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending with games Oct. 25.

Andrusz played a key role in keeping the Golden Eagles PSAC playoff hopes alive by leading Clarion to a 2-0 week with a 3-0 win over Gannon Tuesday and a 3-1 win at IUP Saturday. For the week, she hit .422 with 25 kills, six blocks and five digs. Her best performance came against IUP where she had 20 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.

INDIANA - Nicole Andrusz had a .500 hitting percentage and 20 kills to lead the Clarion University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win at IUP Saturday afternoon.

Clarion (15-12, 4-5 PSAC-West) won the first set 25-15 before dropping the second one 22-25. The Golden Eagles, though, rallied to take the final two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-21.

CLARION - Danielle Brunot, Kellie Bartman and Amanda Stefanov combined for 24 kills to lead Clarion to a 3-0 win over visiting Gannon in a PSAC-West match Tuesday night at Tippin Gym.

Brunot led the way for the Golden Eagles (14-12 overall, 3-5 PSAC-West) with 10 kills, while Bartman had eight and Stefanov six. Amanda Gough set the offense up with 31 set assists.

EAGLES WIN A PAIR

CLARION- Clarion University's women's volleyball team swept a pair of matches at home on Saturday against Lake Erie and West Liberty.

In the morning match the Golden Eagles defeated Lake Erie 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-14), and in the afternoon game beat West Liberty 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-11).

CLARION - Clarion's women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Edinboro in a PSAC-West match Friday night at Clarion.

The Golden Eagles, ranked eighth in the Atlantic Region, had upset on their minds in the early going taking a 25-23 decision in the first set against the second-ranked Fighting Scots.

INDIANAPOLIS - The Clarion University women's volleyball team is ranked eighth in the first NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll.

The Golden Eagles, who have advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs in each of the last two seasons and in five of the last six, currently stand at 11-11 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC-West with a very young team that features four freshmen playing prominent roles. Clarion, which has a 10-6 Atlantic Region mark, returns to action this weekend with three games.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOLDING DIG FOR THE CURE NIGHT TUESDAY

CLARION - Tuesday's 7 p.m. Gannon at Clarion women's volleyball match will be a "Dig for a Cure" night to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The women's volleyball team will be selling T-shirts for $12 with $5 of that being directly donated to breast cancer research. The T-shirts will be Navy Blue with a pink Ribbon and Clarion Volleyball written on the front according to head coach Jennifer Harrison. The team will also be collecting donations for cancer research as well as handing out pink breast cancer awareness ribbons.

EAGLES DROP DECISION TO CAL

CLARION - The Clarion University women's volleyball team gave first-place California a battle before falling 3-1 in PSAC-West action Tuesday night at Clarion's Tippin Gym.

It was all Vulcans (24-1, 7-0 PSAC-West) in the early going, as Cal took the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-12. But Clarion (11-11, 2-4) fought back in set No. 3 winning 25-18. The Golden Eagles then took a 22-21 lead in the fourth set before succumbing to Cal 25-23.

GOLDEN EAGLES SPLIT PSAC CROSSOVER

EDINBORO - The Clarion University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in PSAC Crossover play Saturday at Edinboro.

In the morning match, Lock Haven defeated the Golden Eagles 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 19-25, 16-25), while in the afternoon Clarion knocked off Cheyney 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-1).
