CLARION - The Clarion University women's volleyball team is going dancing in the NCAA Division II Tournament after being selected for the field of 64 Monday morning. The Golden Eagles (27-5), who are the second seed in the Atlantic Region, are making their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs and their fifth trip to the Big Dance in the last six seasons. Clarion, under first-year head coach Jennifer Harrison, will take on Lees-McCrae at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at California University of Pennsylvania's Hamer Hall. The Golden Eagles knocked off Lees-McRae 3-0 in early September. If Clarion wins Thursday, it will take on the winner of the (3) Edinboro-(6) Slippery Rock game at 5 p.m. Friday at Cal. The Regional Championship game is set for 7 p.m. Saturday also at Cal. Host California is the top seed, followed by Clarion, Edinboro, Shippensburg, Kutztown, Slippery Rock, Lees-McRae and Fayetteville State. GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES - This past weekend, Clarion finished second at the PSAC Championships. It was the Golden Eagles top PSAC finish since taking second in 1989 ... This will be the fourth time Clarion and Lees-McRae have met in the NCAA Playoffs. Lees-McRae got a 3-2 win over the Golden Eagles in 2002, a 3-0 win in 2003 and a 3-2 win in 2004 ... Clarion is looking for its first NCAA Division II Tournament win. The Golden Eagles lost to Kutztown 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament a year ago ... The 27 wins this season tie for the third most in school history and are the most for a first-year head coach at Clarion. |
