Four Golden Eagles Named PSAC-West All-Conference

Nov. 14, 2007

LOCK HAVEN - Four Clarion University women's volleyball players were named to the PSAC-West All-Conference team Tuesday.

Senior outside hitter Christina Steiner and senior right-side hitter Sarah Fries were named to the first team, while senior Libero Vicky Gentile and senior setter Kristi Fiorillo were second-team choices.

Steiner, a second-team PSAC-West selection last year, is second in the PSAC in kills per game (4.35) and has 448 kills this season while adding 404 digs (3.92 per game). She is one of just three players in school history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs and ranks third in Clarion history in kills (1,306) and 11th in digs (1,115).

Fries is fourth in the PSAC in kills per game (4.06) and has 410 kills on the year to go along with 317 digs (3.14 per game), 65 blocks and 49 service aces. She ranks fourth in school history in kills with 1,229.

Gentile, who earlier this season became the all-time leading dig leader in school history (2,494), ranks is second in the PSAC in digs per game (6.14). Her 639 digs this season are the second most in a season at Clarion, and she holds four of the top six single-season dig marks in school history including a school record 711 in 2004. In 2004, she was a second-team Daktronics Atlantic Region selection.

Fiorillo leads the PSAC and ranks 16th in the nation in set assists per game (12.76), and her 1,327 set assists this season are the eighth most in a campaign in Clarion history. She ranks sixth in school history with 2,758 set assists. This season, she is adding 321 digs (3.09 per game).

Steiner, Fries, Gentile and Fiorillo have helped Clarion to a 27-5 overall record this year while finishing 7-3 in the PSAC-West, good for second place. The Golden Eagles then won two PSAC Playoff games before finishing second at last weekend's PSAC Tournament. Clarion has qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight season and for the fifth time in the last six years. The Golden Eagles play Lees-McRae in the opening round at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES - The 27 wins ties for the third most in school history ... Clarion's second-place ending in the PSAC is the school's best since taking second in 1989.
